Seriously what can you do with the letter X??? For years I have had my students make cute x-ray vests out of grocery bags.  They were adorable but it was time to "kick it up a notch".  This year my teaching pals and I (see below picture) created our first X Marks The Spot Day.  It was eXcellent!!!!

The kids all came to school dressed like pirates and we broke up into teams used maps and went on a treasure hunt around the school looking for X pictures.  There was sooooo much learning going on while the kids had a ball.  They practiced reading, writing and math with centers like swab the deck, fishing for phonics, blow me down bubbles, and walk the plank.  After the treasure hunt we gathered back on our ship where we had Pirate Punch and Capn' Max's Mutiny Mix.  At the end of the day students wore home their adorable pirate headbands that we made and got to take home a bag full of treasure.  Below are just a few pictures.

Pirate headbands (believe it or not we made them out of paper)
Maybe one day I'll write down our unit to post for everyone but for now I am eXhausted so it will have to wait.
That's what I was thinking this week as I was doing calendar with my kids.  I can't believe how fast the month of February flew by (even with an extra day).  Groundhog's day, Valentine's Day, President's Day, 100 Day, 101 Day and interim report cards all happened during this month.  No wonder I'm a little dizzy.  Once again, THANK YOU Pinterest for coming through to save the day.  Here is my favorite picture from the month.  I love it because it shows...

  1. One of my partners in crime friends who teaches next door to me.
  2. My favorite 100 day Pinterest idea that I got from here.
  3. How I felt about this month.

Hopefully March will be a little bit more relaxing.
