Whew - what a week

Well this week was another CRAZY busy week for my Superstars. We FINALLY started workstations during our literacy time, I had to pull students to complete assessments for interim report cards, we had our parent open house and I had to cram everything into a 4 day week because Friday was a professional development day for teachers.  See what I mean CRAZZZZZYYY!!!!

All in all everything went better than expected.  My kids are getting the hang of workstations, we got a lot of great writing done, I only had 3 parents not show up for open house (a record for me) and I found out at the end of the week that I received funding for two grants that I wrote.  See what I mean. . .that's a pretty good week.  Here is a picture of a craftivity that we did this week to go along with the story Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes.  I found the original idea on the blog Sweet Time in First Grade and then tweaked it for my class.

The big pretty flower on the bucket is actually covering up a
Halloween design. . .shh don't tell anyone

I  incorporated Math, Reading, Phonemic Awareness and Writing all into this one activity while still differentiating for my kinders and my firsties.  I think it came out  ~ like Chrysanthemum would say "absolutely perfect".  This was on my sign-in table for open house and my parents LOVED it.

Here is a close up of the key for the glyph. My goal is to eventually write everything down for you guys and post it to share but today is not that day.  I'm off to finish watching the Florida game that is on pause on my DVR ~ GO GATORS.
SHINE on everyone

  2. Love it! We just did Chrysanthemum last week and worked with our names, I wish I would have seen this earlier! (File it away for next year!)
